Millennial Theatre Project

Meet Francine Parr, Artistic Director of The Millennial Theatre Project.

“While studying musical theatre in college, I was always told that I wasn’t enough, or I was too fat, or not black enough, or too black for specific roles. I couldn’t find my place there. It was a different show, but the same cast. From that point on, The Millennial Theatre Project was born.

From there on, I vowed that no two casts would ever be the same. I also vowed that anyone who had been told no would be told yes on my stage,” Parr shared.

Megan Harvey, the Akron Civic Theatre’s Producer Representative explained that at The Millennial Theatre Project, giving opportunities is key. “People who aren’t typically seen or cast for musicals—it’s important for us to create an authentic vibe of people who represent Akron,” she shared.

Within the upcoming season, The Millennial Theatre Project is performing Heather’s Musical, which was the very first production five years ago. The Millenial Theatre Project also has plans for a run of The Rocky Horror Show in the late fall of 2021.
