What is the Cultural Plan?

The Cultural Plan began as a city-wide effort in Akron to understand how arts, culture, heritage, and natural assets shape our community—and how they could be more fully supported and celebrated. Through hundreds of conversations, deep research, and leadership from artists, residents, and organizations, a clear vision emerged for how Akron could more fully invest in its creative future.

But as the work took shape, something else became clear: the energy, needs, and opportunities didn’t stop at the city line. Neighborhoods across Summit County were already contributing to - and relying on - the cultural life of the region. So, with intention and care, the plan’s work expanded beyond Akron, connecting with the 31 communities across the county.

This movement grew out of relationships, shared priorities, and a belief that cultural vitality belongs to everyone - no matter where they live. Today, the Cultural Plan reflects a county-wide commitment to creative, inclusive, and connected communities across all of Summit County.
